Annual Professional Visit:
Visit to the Bibliothèque de Lyon.

The day programme looks like this (presentations will be in French but question time will be in English and French):
  • Le matin : présentation en français des outils innovants mis en oeuvre par la Bibliothèque de Lyon : Guichet du Savoir, Catalog+, bases d'images numérisées, traitements EAD et XML de divers fonds, avec questions - résponses en anglais/en français.
  • Après déjeuner, le groupe sera divisé en 2 groupes, pour une visite plus approfondie des fonds anciens (avec atelier de numérisation, atelier de reliure, etc.) pour le premier groupe, et une visite des fonds régionaux et de leur traitement (numérisation, portail web, etc.) pour le second groupe.
  • Participants need to indicate their preference for the afternoon visits (fonds anciens ou fonds régionaux). We go to Lyon by bus. AILIS will organize a group lunch for all participants.
  • There are 30 seats only in the bus, so first come (paid), first served. Other candidates may be put on a waiting list.

The future of search: a survival guide
Wednesday 14 March (9:30-17:00)

Morning : the first half of this workshop will take you through the latest alternative web search engines and what they have to offer; blogs and RSS; wikis; image, video and audio search; and specialist listings.

Afternoon : the second half will look at the key players in desktop search: their features, pros and cons, and how they are trying to gain control of the web and your desktop.
